The right time of day for interior and architecture photography

Interior and architecture photography is not a studio product shoot. The light belongs to the building and it changes all day. The same room can look cold at breakfast, harsh at noon and warm at dusk. The wrong hour makes expensive design look cheap.

Morning light is soft and kind to offices and homes. Midday sun stains glass facades with glare and hard contrast; sometimes you wait, sometimes you manage it with blinds and fill light. Golden hour is the most valuable slot for exteriors, villas and hotels, but it lasts 25–40 minutes. The shot list has to be written before that window opens.

Ceiling lamps may sit at 3000K while the window is 5600K. Correct one white balance and the other turns sickly. The professional choice is either daylight only, or practical lamps with the window under control. Media7 often takes several exposures so the view outside does not become a blown white rectangle.

Verticals should not fall over. That means a tilt-shift lens or a careful camera height. Cars, bins and leftover construction tape at the edge make a building look unfinished. Drone frames do not replace ground frames: aerials show place, ground shots show material.

The day before, agree sun direction, access and the room order. In hotels and villas, rooms can be shot in the morning and the facade at dusk. Media7 often pairs interior photography with drone and a short film, because they share the same light window.
